Educaid, a long-established NGO in Sierra Leone, have developed a programme to transform teaching and learning. They give initial training to the school heads and staff, explaining their ‘Ten Top Strategies for Teaching and Learning’. These require that teachers engage with the children individually, monitoring their progress, seeing where they need extra help and making school safe and fun. They also involve the school management committees and the wider community.

With funding from One World Link, EducAid have appointed Sheku JP Sannoh (‘JP’), an experienced staff member pictured here, to lead the training and to be a coach and mentor for the coming school year. He has taken up residence in Bo and spends full day every week with each of the schools encouraging and helping them to implement those strategies. The overall aim is to improve teaching and le`arning, ensure higher levels of literacy and numeracy, reduce absenteeism and improve community involvement. There are regular posts from JP as well as formal termly reports on the project and teachers from the UK have visited to see the progress.
One World Link has mounted a fundraising campaign to raise money to pay for the project. Contributions have come from schools, teachers and the One World Link membership.
The articles listed here show the development, progress and monitoring of the project since its inception.
